Current Personnel
For current Royal Marines personnel, we have recognised the following current Royal Marines courses for the following iam qualifications (Royal Navy courses are currently under review):
Level 3 Certificate in Administrative Management (Student Membership)
- Clerk Class 2
Level 4 Diploma in Administrative Management (Associate Membership, AInstAM)
- Clerk Class 1
For the Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma. A project report is also required.
Current Royal Marines personnel should contact Richard Jenkins at the address below, who will provide project report guidance and have the completed report marked.
Candidates should then download the Application form which can be found below and return it to Richard along with their payment and documentary proof of course completion to be forwarded to the iam. The iam will then forward certificates of achievement directly to individuals.

Former Service Personnel
Individuals who have left the Royal Navy or Royal Marines can also apply for retrospective academic recognition. We have recognised a range of Royal Navy & Royal Marines courses for iam Awards in Management Practice. Awards can be made based on courses undertaken and previous experience at the following levels:
Team Leader Award in Management Practice (Student Membership)
- Personnel who have completed the Royal Navy LRC course, Junior Commando course
Certificate in Management Practice (Student Membership)
- Personnel who have completed Royal Navy Petty Officer Leadership course, Senior Commando course
Diploma in Management Practice (Associate Membership, AInstAM)
- Personnel who have completed the Royal Navy Divisional Officers Course, Advanced Commando course
Advanced Diploma in Management Practice (Full Membership, MInstAM)
- Personnel in the Writer, Clerks and Supply Administrators trades or who have completed Royal Navy Divisional Officers Course, Advanced Commando course

To gain retrospective academic recognition for your course, please:
1 Download and complete the application form below
2 Attach documentary evidence of your course/qualification
3 Attach the relevant sections of your PDR. Sailors and Marines are required to submit completed copies of pages 33, 35, 37 & 39 Personal Development Plan
4 Attach your current CV
5 Return the completed form, documentary evidence and your payment to the iam
Your application will then be assessed and the relevant Award will be sent directly to you. Please note that if your application does not result in us being able to make an Award to you, an administration fee of £25 will be charged.
