Membership levels for individuals

The IAM reserve the right to downgrade an application if following the initial application it transpires the evidence we have received does not meet our requirements. Our decision in this case is final.

Student

All business, professional administration and administrative management students are entitled to one year’s free student membership of the Institute, which can be activated by visiting the student membership page.

As a student taking advantage of the free 12 months student membership you will be registered with IAM at our student grade. If you are currently registered for a course with IQ-IAM then please select "IQ/IAM Student" when applying for Membership. 

If you are also eligible for a higher grade as a result of your experience or qualifications to date and you prefer to keep this higher grade whilst studying, you will be required to pay for this higher grade, but you will receive a £20 student discount for the first 12 months of your study period.

 

Affiliate

Affiliate level is suited to those who are just starting out in their career and are looking for support and advice from others in the profession.

Individuals will need to submit a full CV and support their application with evidence of successful completion of a level 2 qualification within a relevant administrative or managerial field.

Although continuing professional development (CPD) is not required to attain this grade, the IAM reserves the right to ask for proof of CPD at the end of a 12 month period.

It is advised that Affiliates complete at least 1 day of CPD during the 12 months following membership acceptance at this level.

 

Associate (AInstAM)

Associate level is intended for those looking to take their next steps up the career ladder.

Individuals will need to submit a full CV and support their application with at least one of the following requirements:

  • Evidence of having achieved a level 3 qualification in a relevant administrative or managerial field.
  • Evidence of having been employed for one year or more in any business where their duties involve professional administration, and administrative management.

It is advised that Associates complete at least 5 days CPD) during 12 months.

The IAM reserves the right to ask for proof of CPD at the end of a 12 month period.

 

Member (MInstAM)

At Member level you will have a wealth of sector knowledge and skills in your profession. You will be focused on developing new skills and insights as well as looking for career progression. More experienced members may wish to share their skills and knowledge in the form of mentoring and will have the opportunity to network and share ideas with other members at special events.

Individuals will need to submit a full CV and support their application with at least one of the following requirements:

  • Evidence of having achieved a level 4 or 5 qualification in a relevant administrative or managerial field.
  • Evidence of having been employed for at least three years with a minimum of one year being a management role, within a business where their duties involved professional administration and/or administrative management

It is advised that Members complete at least 4 days CPD) during 12 months.

The IAM reserves the right to ask for proof of CPD at the end of a 12 month period.

 

Fellow (FInstAM)

Fellowship of the Institute of Administrative Management is the most senior grade available and is reserved for those who have reached the highest echelons in their career, demonstrating their ability to expertly carry out their professional roles and duties.

Individuals will need to submit a full CV and support their application with at least one of the following requirements:

  • Evidence of having achieved a level 6+ qualification in a relevant administration, business and/or management discipline.
  • Evidence of significant experience or contribution to the fields of professional administration and/or administrative management and/or business leadership judged by the IAM as commensurate to the grade.
  • Evidence of having been employed for ten years or more at management level; with at least 3 at senior/strategic level, within a business where their duties involved professional administration and/or administrative management

It is advised that Members complete at least 1 day CPD during 12 months.

The IAM reserves the right to ask for proof of CPD at the end of a 12 month period.

Other grades

*Retired IAM members are very welcome to join or renew for £40 per annum.

*Lifetime members are welcome for a one off fee of 10 x the value of the most recent grade.

*Our Honorary and Companion grades are awarded by invite only but nominations for IAM review are welcome.
