How do we become an accredited centre?

Any centre wishing to gain IAM accreditation must meet the comprehensive criteria set by the IAM. Information on attaining accreditation as an IAM centre or tuition provider can be found on the ‘Centre accreditation’ page of our website. Please contact the IAM for more information on accreditation.

What are the associated costs per qualification?

Registration and examination fees vary, depending on the qualification. For a full breakdown of fees, please refer to the fees and pricing document, available from our website.

What are the entry requirements for each qualification?

Entry requirements vary, depending on the qualification and level. Full entry requirements for each qualification can be found within the relevant qualification syllabus. In short, the IAM would expect candidates have a qualification from the level below for which they wish to enter, or equivalent work experience.

We have registered students but are yet to receive registration materials.

All membership cards, letters and Members’ Login details will be dispatched directly to the centre upon payment of the registration fees. If you have paid and are yet to receive your registrations, please contact the IAM.

Who will conduct and invigilate examinations?

All IAM examinations are to be administered and invigilated by the centre. The IAM conducts spot-checks during each examination series, and centres must comply with IAM Examination Regulations at all times. Full guidelines can be found within the ‘Official policy documents’ section of the Centre Login area of our website.

Can we accept students seeking to transfer from another centre?

Any IAM student is entitled to transfer between centres. To transfer, students must obtain permission from the centre they are leaving and confirmation from the centre they intend to join. Once obtained, details are to be forwarded to the IAM for all records to be amended accordingly.

Where can we find past exam papers and learning resources?

All learning resources, including study guide chapters for IAM QCF qualifications and past exam papers can be accessed via the Centre Login area of our website. Login details are provided to all centres upon accreditation.

A student has completed an IAM qualification; how do they progress?

All registration is per qualification. If a student has completed an IAM qualification and would like to progress onto a higher level, they are required to register onto the new qualification via their centre.

A student has completed an IAM qualification; how do they receive their certificate?

All certificates and transcripts will be sent directly to the student’s centre, within 7 working days of the publication of results. If a certificate fails to arrive after results have been released, please contact the IAM.

What are the recommended learning hours for each qualification?

A list of recommended learning hours for each qualification can be found within the IAM syllabus.

How do we keep in touch with issues and developments concerning IAM qualifications and procedures?

The IAM’s main form of communication with accredited centres is our monthly Centre Brief. The Centre Brief is emailed to all IAM centre co-ordinators during the first week of every month, and contains details of all changes and developments concerning centres in the delivery of IAM qualifications. It is the responsibility of each IAM centre co-ordinator to ensure that the contents of each Centre Brief are distributed amongst all necessary members of staff. A library of all Centre Briefs from the last twelve months can be found in the Centre Login area of our website.

You can also follow the IAM on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

In addition, the IAM periodically holds training and guidance events aimed at tutors, decision-makers and administration staff from our accredited centres. Details of upcoming events can be found in the Centre Brief, as well as on our Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin pages and the ‘Events’ page of our website.

We have entered students for coursework assessment. What is the procedure for marking and submission?

The IAM requires each centre to mark all QCF coursework according to the published marking criteria, and submit electronic copies of all coursework items (including marking forms) to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The published centre guidance document contains full details concerning centre-based marking and submission of QCF coursework. All associated materials, including marking criteria, marking forms and marking guides for each coursework assessment, can be found within the ‘Official policy documents’ section of the ‘Centre Login’ area of our website.

Candidates

I would like to study an IAM qualification; how do I find a suitable college?

All centres accredited by the IAM have passed a multi-stage accreditation process and have received a campus inspection. Information on choosing a centre, including a full list of regional and international centres, can be found on the ‘Where to study’ page of our website.

Does the IAM offer distance learning or independent study options?

The IAM offers both distance learning and independent study options. A full list of distance learning providers is available on our website.

How many examinations can I take per series?

There is no limit to the number of examinations you can sit per series. However, the IAM recommends that students attempt no more then three exams in an exam series as our own statistics suggest that students sitting more than three exams are less likely to achieve passing grades.

If you are an independent candidate, please complete and return the independent candidate examination registration form, available from the ‘Independent candidate support’ page of our website.

Where do I sit my IAM examinations?

If you are studying with a centre, please contact your course supervisor. All examinations will be conducted and invigilated by your centre. If you are an independent candidate, you will need to obtain written permission from an accredited IAM centre, UK embassy, consulate or High Commission, or British Council office allowing you to sit your examination there.

I have registered but have not received my registration materials.

If you are studying with a centre, please contact your course supervisor. All membership cards, letters and Members’ Login details will be sent directly to your centre. If you are an independent candidate, please allow approximately 7 working days from the date of payment for materials to be sent. If your materials have not arrived after 7 working days, please contact the IAM.

I can’t login to the Members’ Login area of the website.

Your username is set as your membership number and your password is your last name, with the first letter Uppercase, unless you have changed it. The Members’ Login page contains the option to request an email containing your username or password. If you have very recently joined the IAM, your details may not have been uploaded to our system yet, as this has to be done by a member of staff. Please allow 5 working days from the date of payment before attempting to login.

I have not completed all modules of my qualification; can I progress onto a higher level?

No. To progress onto a higher level qualification, you must first complete all modules of the lower level qualification.

When and how will I get my examination results?

If you are studying with a centre, please contact your course supervisor. All results will be released to your centre via email. If you are an independent candidate, results will be emailed directly to you. Results are also available to be viewed via the ‘Members’ Login’ section of the website.

I have failed one of my examinations; what options are available to me?

If you are studying with a centre, please contact your course supervisor who can provide you with more information. The IAM aims to ensure that all decisions are processed fairly in order to produce reliable and valid judgments. Despite this, there may be incidents when IAM assessment decisions are questioned. If you would like to appeal or enquire about a result, please follow the steps outlined in our enquires and appeals document.

Upon completing my qualification, when will I get my certificate?

All certificates will be issued and sent to centres and independent candidates within 7 working days of the publication of results. If a certificate fails to arrive after 7 working days, please contact the IAM.

There is a spelling mistake on my certificate/transcript/membership card; what can I do?

All certificates, transcripts and membership cards are produced automatically, using the names supplied by the centre when registering the student. Replacement certificates, transcripts and membership cards can be ordered from the ‘Replacement documents’ page of our website, using the required forms. Please note that a £30 administration fee is payable for all replacement documents.

If a spelling mistake exists on your certificate, transcript or membership card and you would like a replacement but do not feel the error was your fault, please contact your course supervisor or, if you are an independent candidate, please contact the IAM.

I have lost my certificate/transcript/membership card; what can I do?

Replacement certificates, transcripts and membership cards can be ordered from the ‘Replacement documents’ page of our website, using the required forms. Please note that a £30 administration fee is payable for all replacement documents.

What do I do if I have a complaint against my centre?

The IAM takes feedback and complaints very seriously. If you would like to make a complaint or provide feedback, please contact the IAM via letter, email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , or phone us on +44 (0)20 7091 2600. All feedback is kept completely anonymous.

My registration has expired; can I still take exams?

No. Only students with an active registration may sit examinations.

Why are there two deadlines on the examination timetable? (i.e. registration deadline & exam entry deadline)

Before you can register onto an examination, you must first register onto a qualification with the IAM. The qualification registration deadline is the last day for students to register with the IAM onto a qualification. The exam entry deadline is the last date to register for an examination during that series. Examination timetables, including registration and exam entry deadlines, are listed on our website for both NQF and QCF qualifications.

As no registration is required for the Level 2 and 3 Certificates in Principles of Business and Administration (QCF), there is no registration deadline for these qualifications. Exams for these qualifications will be available online, and on-demand.

If I finish my qualification before the expiry date, why do I need to register again?

Registration is valid per qualification. If you complete a qualification, your registration expires regardless of how much time is left. To continue, you must re-register onto the higher level qualification.
